Billy Clapperton latest JDawg to go collegiate
Saturday January 07, 2012
The Dawgs would like to congratulate Billy Clapperton of the J Dawgs Midget Academy who recently accepted a scholarship to Arizona Christian University in Phoenix, Arizona.
Billy is heading off this semester to study business at ACU and was signed as a two way player with the Firestorm who are coached by former University of Southern California Assistant Coach, Doyle Wilson. First game of the 2012 spring season for the Firestorm is January 29 against Concordia University of Southern California in an NAIA match-up.
Billy was part of the J Dawgs team that won the 2011 Alberta Midget Provincial Championship and played outfield for the club as they captured the Silver Medal at the 2011 Canadian Nationals. With power at the plate and a fastball on the mound approaching 88 mph, Coach Doyle of ACU looks for Billy to play outfield as well as close for the Firestorm this season.
Billy's Head Coach over the past two seasons, Brett Thomas, had this to say about Billy's scholarship to Arizona Christian:
"We are very proud of Billy moving on to the next level. Over the course of the last 3 years we've had the chance to see Billy grow as both a player and a person and there is no doubt that he is ready for the next challenge in his life. He's been a pleasure to coach and we are elated for him."
