Some J Dawgs' grads have started the spring collegiate season with a bang. James Stewart, J Dawgs centerfielder over the past 5 years and a key member of the Dawgs Midget Academy Club that swept the Alberta Provincial Championship and a silver medal at the Canadian Nationals, now plays for Head Coach Terry McKaig and the UBC Thunderbirds. As a freshman at a 4 year university and a perennial NAIA National contender, Stewart will have to earn his playing time but early in the 2012 season, he is doing just that. Stewart already has scored 3 runs and contributed 2 hits in the Thunderbirds' southern swing against colleges and universities in California.
A 5 hour drive east in Phoenix, Arizona, J Dawgs' graduate, Tyler Hollick is picking up right where he left off. Hollick the reigning, Dawgs and WMBL "Rookie of the Year", is on fire in the early going for Chandler Gilbert College. With 9 hits in 17 at bats, 2 triples, 3 doubles, 8 RBIs and 6 runs scored, he leads the Coyotes in virtually every offensive category. That is good news not only for Chandler Gilbert as it seeks a birth this season in the Jr. College World Series but also the Ohio State Buckeyes who signed Hollick to a scholarship starting in the fall of 2012. On Family Day (President's Day in the USA) Hollick and his Coyotes will battle a few other Dawgs' grads when Brendan Reid, now patrolling the middle infield for Thomson Rivers University and Coach Frank Ingram, take the field against Chandler down in south Phoenix.
J Dawgs' catcher Jordan Procychen also is off to a fast start batting .389 with 2 doubles in 18 at bats for Northeastern Colorado. Dawgs' webcaster Jon Hodgson joined Procychen at Northeastern and word is boys are doing great work.
Other J Dawgs' graduates like Cody Dillabough who suits up for the NCAA Division 1 Quakers of Penn, Justin Lee at Midland College in Texas, Adam Clark goes to Oklahoma City University ranked number 1 in NAIA, Matt MacDougall at McCook College in Nebraska, Brendan Ethier and James Hanley of the U of C Dinos, Adam Romaniuk, Bretton Gouthro and Alex Regan of PBA and Billy Clapperton of Arizona Christian University are waiting for their seasons to get underway.
The spring college season underway, Major League Baseball's Spring Training set to go, and the Academy clubs are fine tuning for end of March tournaments! ...Baseball Season is BAAAACK.
